Advent in Your Everyday: Day #17

Today's Photo: "E"

"Advent" (definition #4): any coming, arrival, approach

Sometimes waiting can be very exciting. When I lived in Chicago, now and then friends flew into the airport there, and I would get to pick them up. I loved watching the sky, waiting for the right plane to approach the runway.

Another time it's somewhat exciting to wait is when I'm hosting a party or gathering. The house is ready, the food is prepared, and then I excitedly peek out the window waiting for the first car to arrive.

The season of Advent is winding down; we've got about a week to go. At this point in the season of Advent, sometimes the waiting starts to feel cumbersome or annoying. Instead of getting caught up in Christmas anxiety or shopping stress, try to remember moments when you enjoyed waiting. Think of moments when the excitement of anticipation filled your heart with joy. That's the enthusiasm we need to carry us through this final week of Advent as we wait and rejoice.

Prepare our hearts, O God, for the deeper meanings of this special season.
