Advent in Your Everyday: Day #9

Today's Photo (from last fall): "Soaking up the Sun"

"All flesh shall see the salvation of God." - Luke 3:6

There's a winter storm on the way. It's the top news story on television and in the paper. It's the #1 topic of conversation. Plans are being adjusted, and events are being canceled.

I'm glad that the technology exists to give us such advanced warning about storms. However, I feel that we might be a little obsessed with the weather. I mean, it is very nearly winter, right? And it is the upper-Midwest.

I've been thinking about what it would have been like if there was 24-hour a day news when John the Baptist was out and about preaching about the future Messiah. Would he have even gotten a 30-second spot? And what about Jesus? Would he have made the local news in Bethlehem, Nazareth, or Jerusalem?

Yesterday's gospel lesson contains the words: "All flesh shall see the salvation of God." The gospel writer is adapting a passage from the 40th chapter of Isaiah.

What amazing words, huh? "All flesh shall see the salvation of God."

I feel like that should really be BIG NEWS! A BREAKING NEWS alert, in fact!

God's salvation is for all flesh. Everyone is included. That is big Advent news. Time to celebrate.
