For the love of tumeric.

Indian Food Yum

Just when I thought my day off couldn't get any better, I found myself wandering the aisles of an Indian grocery store! Oh yes, that's right....in Rochester! Glory of glories, it was magnificent. The place is called Rice-N-Spice. I'd noticed it out of the corner of my eye before, but today, on the way to pick up my taxes, I decided to embrace the moment. I'm so glad I did.

The owner is perhaps the most friendly person I've met in months! He's got a fantastic mustache, a beautiful accent, and the kind of warmth that remains with you long after the encounter has ended. In Chicago, my Indian pals were some of my closest friends. I haven't had Indian friends for ages. I love the hospitality that seems to exude from their souls! I'm generalizing. Sorry about that. In short, tonight my heart is happy.

"How did you end up in an Indian grocery store?" he asked with a huge smile stretching up his cheeks.

And so the conversation began. Then another fellow joined in, too. He was from Pakistan. Of course, they had a billion questions when they found out I was of the clergy persuasion. But today, even the ol' "So can you get married?" questions made me smile. I was able to learn some new things and laugh and enjoy the beauties of community and diversity at the very same time. Glorious.
