Colossian Insights

When I was serving in the parish, I wasn't much for setting aside devotional time. Over the last few weeks, I have reconnected with this practice, and it has been immensely helpful.

According to author Gary Thomas in his book Sacred Pathways, there are at least 9 different ways people connect to God. Here's a short survey to discern how you best connect to God.

I've learned that my top pathways are: Naturalist, Contemplative, and Intellectual.

Devotional time helps me connect to God through the contemplative pathway. This morning I read a bit from Colossians.

The part I'm chewing on is verse 6. "Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone."

I'm not quite sure about the seasoned with salt part - and what it means. It reminds me of Jesus' words: "You are the salt of the earth."

So that's my goal today. Gracious speech...seasoned with salt.

What are your pathways to God?
