E. E. Cummings

The trees as Assisi are gorgeous these days (see photo above).

Here's a link to this week's column. It's about improv.

Today is the birthday of E. E. Cummings (Edward Estin Cummings). He died back in 1962 and is most remembered as a poet and essayist. Sometimes you might see his name printed as e e cummings. Below are a few of my favorites. I'd love to hear yours.

“To be nobody but
yourself in a world
which is doing its best day and night to make you like
everybody else means to fight the hardest battle
which any human being can fight and never stop fighting.”

*********

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

**********

“I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance”

***********

"be of love(a little)
More careful
Than of everything
guard her perhaps only"
